Notes

1CHEM 4A and 12A are intended for students majoring in chemistry or a closely related field. Note: Prerequisites to CHEM 12A include CHEM 1A and 1AL and 1B (or 4A and 4B).

2Junior transfer admits are exempt from completing BIOENG 10.

3The Humanities/Social Sciences (H/SS) requirement includes two approved Reading & Composition (R&C) courses and four additional approved courses, with which a number of specific conditions must be satisfied. R&C courses must be taken for a letter grade (C- or better required). The first half (R&C Part A) must be completed by the end of the freshman year; the second half (R&C Part B) must be completed by no later than the end of the sophomore year. The remaining courses may be taken at any time during the program. See engineering.berkeley.edu/hss for complete details and a list of approved courses.

4 This course cannot also be used to fulfill the BIOENG Elective or MATSCI Electives requirement.

5Students must take one course with ethics content. This may be fulfilled within the Humanities/Social Sciences requirement by taking one of the following courses: BIOENG 100; ENGIN 125, 157AC; ESPM 161, 162; HISTORY C182C; IAS 157AC; L&S 160B; PHILOS 104, 107.

6Students must choose one of the following Bioengineering Electives: BIOENG 110, 111, 114, 115, C117, 121, 124, 150. 

7Students must choose two of the following Materials Science and Engineering Electives: MATSCI 111, 112, 113, 130.

8Students must choose one of the following Bioengineering Design Project and Research Electives: BIOENG 121L, 140L, 168L, 192, H194, 196.

* A minimum of 120 units is required for graduation.
