Departments and programs
From manipulating organisms at the single-cell level to designing and building massive infrastructure, we cover a broad spectrum of disciplines within the growing field of engineering. And because Berkeley Engineering is known for its collaborative culture, there are numerous opportunities for both students and faculty to explore and interact with researchers within and outside the college.
Materials Science & Engineering
We combine scientific innovations with real-world applications to exploit the properties of natural and synthetic materials. Optimized materials are utilized in medical devices, energy applications, electronics, photonics, transportation, advanced batteries and fuel cells, and more.
Nuclear engineers lead the research and development of processes using nuclear energy and radiation to produce electricity, power spacecraft and advance medicine. They apply their expertise to fields such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, developing medical imaging or diagnosing and combating chronic diseases.
Aerospace engineering is a growing discipline in an emerging era of flight technologies. From drones to spacecraft, aeronautical engineers design all manner of aircraft to fly within the Earth’s atmosphere, while astronautical engineers design the technology to fly beyond the atmosphere.
