Berkeley Engineering offers a range of programs to support the success of undergraduate engineering students during their time at Berkeley and beyond. Programs include opportunities for students to build mentor relationships, form cohorts within their majors and expand their understanding of course materials outside of the classroom.
PREP
Our Pre-Engineering Program (PREP) gives incoming first-year students a competitive edge by jumpstarting their Berkeley Engineering experience through participation in the PREP Summer Institute.
T-PREP
Our Transfer Pre-Engineering Program (T-PREP) offers incoming transfer students an intensive seven-day immersive summer experience that provides a head start in making the transition from community college to Berkeley Engineering.
Engineering Scholars as Engaged Scholars
Engineering Scholars as Engaged Scholars (ES²) is a one-year program that provides incoming freshmen and transfer students with opportunities to combine engineering and innovation with their commitment to social justice and underserved communities.
First-generation mentor program
The first-generation mentor program is a year-long program designed to provide individualized mentorship, professional development opportunities and academic support to first-generation students at Berkeley Engineering. The program has a two-tiered structure: (1) first-generation upper-division students mentor first-generation lower-division students, and (2) alumni, faculty and graduate students mentor first-generation upper-division students.
LeaderShape
LeaderShape is an intensive, six-day educational experience held in a remote environment with no internet or cell phone access. Sixty Berkeley participants come from all engineering majors, as well as from diverse ethnic and personal backgrounds.
Engineering workshops
Every semester, Engineering Student Services offers engineering workshops to help students make the most of their time as undergraduates in Berkeley Engineering. Whether it is how to take notes and study effectively, make the most of GSI and faculty office hours, or managing time and stress, our workshops delve into topics with the engineering student in mind.
Engineering scholars
Continuing the work that begins in PREP, students build on the cohort within their major to learn more about their department, job opportunities, research skills and more.
Deep dives
Deep dives are offered for core engineering courses to give students extra study sessions that build on the lectures and discussions from class.
Grand Challenges Scholars Program
The Grand Challenges Scholars Program combines innovative curriculum and cutting-edge research experiences into a scholastic fusion that spans academic disciplines and includes entrepreneurial, global, and service learning opportunities.
