Professional master’s programs

A Berkeley Engineering professional master’s program prepares students with the skills they need to join the workforce as an engineering leader immediately after graduation. In addition to deepening one’s technical skills at one of the top public universities in the world, these programs put a great deal of focus on real-world application, communications, teaming, and project management. Master of Advanced Study in Engineering

This flexible, online program keeps engineering students abreast of rapidly evolving changes in their fields. Choose courses from four interdisciplinary concentrations, completing the degree in just 24 units. Complete the degree at your own pace: in 9 months full-time or 1.5-4 years part-time.

Master of Analytics

An 11-month program that trains students in data-driven analytical methods and tools for optimization, statistics, simulation, and risk management with relevant industry context. Graduates develop innovative models and find creative solutions to rapidly changing business and industry challenges, and communicate and implement their solutions. Offered by the Industrial Engineering & Operations Research Department.

Master of Design

An interdisciplinary three-semester program in design for emerging technologies that connects technical rigor, design theory, and social practice and prepares students for a broad range of creative and technical roles. Offered by the College of Engineering and the College of Environmental Design.

Master of Development Engineering

A three-semester interdisciplinary program integrating engineering, economics, business, natural resource, and social sciences to develop, implement, and evaluate technological interventions that address the needs of low-income communities. Offered through the Blum Center for Developing Economies.

Master of Engineering

A two-semester full-time program combining engineering, business and leadership curricula with capstone projects in a chosen technical concentration. MEng degrees are offered through all seven engineering departments augmented with business and leadership coursework. A two-year MBA/MEng dual degree program, as well as a limited part-time option, is also available.

Master of Molecular Science and Software Engineering

An online program preparing students for interdisciplinary careers in computational science, data science, software engineering, and machine learning. MSSE is designed for students with backgrounds in chemistry, physics, biology, computer science, or from other physical science disciplines. Can be completed full-time in 9 months or part-time in 2+ years.

Master of Translational Medicine

A 10-month program offered in collaboration with UC San Francisco, trains students in the technical, business, and clinical aspects of bringing new medical technology from concept to clinical use.

Master of Science

The Professional Master of Science is an opportunity to deep dive into one of 7 different areas of Civil & Environmental Engineering. Students in the program work closely with faculty in labs, on collaborative projects, and visit field sites to learn more about the industry. Our program offers weekly seminars with industry and research experts and provides connections to employers via our resume books, employer information sessions, and career fairs. Students who leave with the Professional MS in Civil & Environmental Engineer are equipped to enter the workforce with a portfolio or work and experience gained in this 2 semester intensive program.
