Engineering Center construction update
Work has begun on construction of the Engineering Center, a new facility on the UC Berkeley campus that will become a nexus for student collaboration, innovation and entrepreneurship. Slated for completion in early 2025, the new center will add 35,500 square feet across two new floors above the existing two floors of the Bechtel Engineering Center. This page provides an overview of key construction updates created for occupants and visitors of neighboring buildings. Information about the project is also available on the Capital Strategies website.
Questions or concerns about how the upcoming construction activities may impact daily operations, research or instruction should be directed to your building coordinator.

Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024: Access interruption to the Engineering Center
The fire lane between the Engineering Center and the Hearst Memorial Mining Building will be closed on Saturday, Sept. 14, due to construction. See maps below for affected areas and alternative routes.
Alternative route: Pedestrian access will be maintained on the road between the Engineering Center and the Hearst Memorial Mining Building for north-south foot traffic to/from Cory/Sutardja Dai/Davis halls via a 4-foot-wide (minimum) walking path. This path will be managed by flaggers; pedestrians will be allowed to proceed only when it is safe. Delivery trucks will have access to all buildings around the Hearst Memorial Mining Building.
The Engineering Project team will need to set up a crane to hoist roofing material to the roof level and to remove electrical equipment from the basement. The crane will be set up in the blocked-off area.
