Department affiliate programs

Berkeley Engineering fosters close cooperation between industry and our departments through industry affiliate programs that offer companies unique access to student recruitment opportunities, special events, and activities to advance the companies’ recruitment goals.

Student projects

Does your company have a compelling project for one or more Berkeley Engineering students? Capstone design projects provide students with hands-on opportunities to create a product or solve a real-world challenge. Student teams help partner companies meet their business goals while providing unexpected insights and solutions. In return, students gain valuable experience putting into practice what they have learned in the classroom. Contact corporate relations to learn more.

Welcoming workplaces

At Berkeley Engineering, our priority is to cultivate a more inclusive culture that values and leverages diversity to fully unlock our individual and collective potential. We believe that working effectively with people from different backgrounds and disciplines is just as important as technical ability for engineering leaders to successfully tackle evolving and complex challenges facing our global society. We invite companies to share their efforts to advance an equitable and inclusive workplace culture by taking a brief Corporate Diversity and Inclusion Survey.

Student mentorship

Consider sharing your experience and helping the next generation of engineering leaders by becoming an industry mentor with the Berkeley Mentorship Cohort (BMC). The alumni experience, insights, and commitment to Berkeley Engineering’s values make the college’s engineering graduates invaluable supporters of the next generation of engineers. Contact corporate relations about becoming a mentor.

Recognizing that students need time to make informed decisions when comparing and responding to offers and that employers need to be able to effectively manage their time-sensitive recruitment processes, the following guidelines are intended to provide students and employers with a fair and transparent framework for managing the offer phase of the process in this increasingly competitive job market:

  • For all offers extended in the fall for full-time employment or summer internships (including return offers), employers should allow until November 1 or a minimum of two weeks from the date of the written offer, whichever is later, for students to accept or decline any offer. For winter and spring offers, employers should allow a minimum of two weeks from the date of the written offer for students to accept or decline any offer.
  • For all offers extended during summer 2024 for accelerated recruitment for summer 2025 internships, students must be given a deadline of September 9, 2024, or a minimum of two weeks from the date of the written offer, whichever is later.
  • Employers are recommended to be flexible in granting offer extensions on a case-by-case basis if circumstances warrant.
  • The written offer should clearly state all appropriate terms and conditions, including but not limited to, position title/description, location, benefits, start date, salary, bonuses, etc.
  • All bonuses or other incentives are to remain in full effect for the entire duration of the offer period.
  • Students will be encouraged to contact employers directly if they have any questions or concerns about their offers, including needing more time to make their decisions.

Note that Berkeley Engineering’s guidelines apply to any student currently declared as an engineering major, including the CDSS computer science majors or minors and M.E.T. students. They also differ slightly from the campus guidelines on job offers, which state that employers should allow a minimum of three weeks from the date of the written offer for students to accept or decline.
