09/06/16 National Science Foundation — The NSF on Tuesday awarded $4.6 million to VeHICaL (Verified Human Interfaces, Control, and Learning for Semi-Autonomous Systems), a project led by by EECS professor Sanjit Seshia that seeks to "impact the way humans collaborate and interact with automation." Researchers include EECS professors Ruzena Bajcsy, Shankar Sastry, Bjoern Hartmann, Claire Tomlin, and Tom Griffiths.
08/23/16 — Wei Gao, an EECS postdoc developing wearable sweat sensors to monitor health, and EECS assistant professor Sergey Levine, who helped pioneer “deep learning” for robots, are among seven Berkeley engineers on this year's list of top innovators under 35, compiled by MIT Technology Review.
08/09/16 Cal Sports Quarterly — Olivier Siegelaar (B.S.'13 ME), who is rowing for the Netherlands crew team at the Rio Olympics, is also a 2016 Pac-12 postgrad scholarship recipient, to help him pursue an MBA at Oxford University.

04/22/16 American Institute of Architects — In an Earth Day announcement, the AIA's Committee on the Environment selected Jacobs Hall as one of ten top examples of sustainable architecture and ecological design projects that protect and enhance the environment.
03/28/16 Office of Sustainability & Energy — Jacobs Hall, new home of the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation, has won a 2016 Higher Education Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Best Practice Award for its efficient use and reuse of energy and water.
03/16/16 U.S.News & World Report — In graduate program rankings released Wednesday, Berkeley Engineering ranked first in civil engineering, computer science, electrical engineering and environmental engineering. All programs remain in the top 10, with bioengineering, industrial engineering and nuclear engineering ranked higher than in 2015.

02/19/16 NBC — Environmental engineering Ph.D. student William Tarpeh, whose work promotes sustainable sanitation in developing countries, was selected by NBC News as one of the NBCBLK28 - innovators and game changers who are "young, gifted, and unapologetically Black."
01/05/16 Forbes — Bioengineering Ph.D. student Shang Song, co-founder of Rynm health, has been named to Forbes magazine's 30 Under 30. Rynm will collect and aggregate chronic disease data from patients to create meaningful pictures of community health in developing countries.
01/05/16 Science — A breakthrough from bioengineer John Dueber's lab, led by BioE PhD William DeLoache, was a runner-up for Science magazine's 2015 breakthrough of the year. They were recognized for creating an engineered yeast that can convert sugar into the makings of opioid painkillers.
11/23/15 Daily Californian — The EECS graduate student duo of Tae Joon Seok and Sangyoon Han has come away with $10,000 after winning third place in a national competition among collegiate inventors for their cloud-technology innovation, called the Silicon Waveguide Array Photonic Switch.
11/20/15 Time — The Eko Core smart stethoscope, developed by CEO Connor Landgraf (B.S'13, M.Eng'14 BioE) and his team at Eko Devices, has been named one of the 25 best inventions of 2015 by Time magazine.
09/11/15 — The Siebel Scholars Foundation has named its 2016 class of exceptional graduate students, including nine from Berkeley. The Berkeley cohort includes five students from bioengineering, three from computer science and one from energy science.
08/18/15 Berkeley Research — Rikky Muller (Ph.D.'13 EECS), co-founder of the medical device start-up Cortera Neurotechnologies, has been named one of 35 Innovators Under 35 by the MIT Technology Review. Muller's research into hardware that buzzes the brain at the right moments could help treat debilitating mental disorders.
