Learn about the courses offered by SCET, how to pursue the certificate and SCET success stories.

09/28/20 — On this week’s episode of the (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer we are introducing two new folks to the podcast, Yuki Burton from the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and Jose Jasso, one of our Berkeley Engineering students who just graduated with a BS in electrical engineering and computer sciences. Jose shares his story of resilience, the resources he used to be successful and his thoughts on how other students can succeed. Yuki gives us an in-depth overview of EOP, campus resources and how first-generation and underrepresented students can reach out and make connections.

09/21/20 — Last week we were able to meet each of our engineering counselors, Christine Zhou, Yi Du and Geneé Jackson. This week on the (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer we learned more about what a counseling session looks like, address some of the common questions students bring to their sessions and talk about how the pandemic and remote learning are affecting our students. We delve into how students can prepare, cope and be successful this semester and beyond.

09/14/20 — Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) has a satellite office for Berkeley Engineering students. An important part of seeking support is knowing that you will be comfortable and understood. That is why this week on The (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer you will meet licensed psychologists Dr. Shuangmei (Christine) Zhou, Dr. Geneé Jackson, and Dr. Yi Du from University Health Services. They provide free and confidential consultations to students related to any personal, professional, or academic concerns.

09/07/20 — The Center for Access to Engineering Excellence (CAEE) is open this week and we wanted to get to know more about the tutoring services and your peers that work there. Berkeley Engineering students Natalie Celt and Bradley Seamons join us on The (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer to tell us how the CAEE is offering academic support virtually and how you can get the most out of the services they offer.

08/31/20 — We know it has been said multiple times already - this semester is going to be different. With all your classes being taught online, often with asynchronous materials, how you study is going to have to adapt and change to what you have done previously. This week on the (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer we are excited to introduce you to Dr. Sonia Travaglini. She has the new position of Learning & Success specialist in Engineering Student Services and wants to share some tips of how you can develop your study skills for an online environment and learn how to be successful in this unordinary circumstance.

08/24/20 — Resources on campus have shifted significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic and moving all classes online. The Kresge Engineering Library staff has been hard at work moving even more content online. This week on The (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer we’ve invited Kresge Engineering Librarians Lisa Ngo and Anna Sackmann to tell us more about the library and what resources it offers to UC Berkeley students. Don't think that just because you aren't on campus you don't have access to your librarians to ask questions, and you also have full access to their online catalog of books, articles, videos and workshops.

08/17/20 — This week on the (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer, we explore professional development opportunities with Marvin Lopez, director of student programs in Engineering Student Services (ESS). Professional development includes workshops, events, retreats and so much more. With the changes to the fall semester, you can expect to have our best events updated to a remote environment that will still be engaging and provide the support you need as you continue in your professional development. The best way to keep up-to-date with opportunities is the ESS newsletter which is delivered every Monday afternoon during the semester.

08/10/20 — Today on The (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer, we talk with Amy Dinh from the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation. She tells us about the changes for the fall semester, and shares which courses are designed for frosh and transfer students. Plus, Amy introduces us to the Berkeley Certificate in Design Innovation, student led DeCal courses, student organizations with whom they partner, and more.

08/03/20 — The UC Berkeley Career Center supports you in finding jobs, internships, and more. This week on the (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer we are excited to have Revae Hitt and Michael Harris, career counselors whose primary focus is working with students in engineering and physical sciences.
