09/25/17 — Our podcast this week, The (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer, takes an in-depth look at Study Abroad. Louise Hon, Study Abroad Adviser and Kathy Barrett, Engineering Student Services Adviser go over what programs are available, how you can choose a country, how it will effect your time to degree, how will financial aid work and more. We also interviewed Joy Gu, a fourth year Berkeley Engineering, to get her first-hand knowledge of what studying abroad was like and tips she has for her fellow students.

09/18/17 — The (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer is a discussion with Sharon Mueller, Director of Advising and Policy and Kathy Barrett, Associate Director of Advising about both of the deadlines. Listen in to what they want each student to think about when deciding if they should add/drop a course or change their grading option for a non-degree tech course. Both deadlines are on Friday, September 22 at 11:59 pm. Please do not wait until the last moments to make your changes - this is a firm deadline and you don't want technical problems to hinder it.

09/11/17 — Today we meet Abigail Jacob, Engineering Student Council (ESC) President. She is passionate about student organizations and how they benefit the students in the College of Engineering and beyond. Abigail discusses what she does for ESC, how she can provide support for student groups and how you can get involved.

09/05/17 — The Momentum Speaker series is back next week with the first program, The Intern Perspective. On this week's podcast we learn about the motivation behind  the speaker series, what topics will be covered this semester and why current student's perspectives are important. As Mark Ansell explains "...the main reason that we want attendees to attend our Momentum Speaker Series is because we want them to expand their mindsets of what is possible for themselves, whether that be through internships, entrepreneurship or just overcoming failures." Join Mark Ansell and Andrew Ansell as they give you a behind the scenes look into the series and what you will gain from attending.

08/28/17 — Engineering Student Services has a great resource for students with our ESS Peer Advisers.  They are in the office Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm and as current engineering students they are the experts on how to navigate Cal, manage schedules and explain the courses in your major. This week we talked with two of our Peer Advisers to ask them what they do to make sure they have a successful semester, what resources they make sure to use and more.

08/22/17 — As your first classes at UC Berkeley approach you might be wondering how to: have a successful first semester, get the most out of studying, or use office hours wisely. Earlier this summer I sat down with Terry Johnson, an associate teaching professor of bioengineering and he spent his time on the podcast answering those questions and more! Take some time to listen to the tips that Terry offers to make the most of your time at Berkeley. He has a reputation among peers and students for his enthusiasm for teaching. As one former student put it: “If every professor were like [Terry Johnson], people would never want to leave college.”

08/15/17 — The Kresge Engineering Library is so much more than books! This week UC Berkeley Engineering Librarian, Lisa Ngo, joins us to discuss everything that the library has to offer: Book collections, equipment check out, room reservations, nap space and more. Once you learn all about the engineering library make sure you visit it on the first floor the Bechtel Engineering Center.

08/08/17 — It might seem too early to start thinking about graduate school since you haven't actually started classes at Berkeley, but here at the (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer we don't think that's true.  It is never too early to start thinking about what you want to do when you graduate. This week we are happy that Meltem Erol, Director, Graduate Outreach, College of Engineering, has stopped by to discuss what frosh and transfer students can do to prepare for grad school. She goes over the five sections of grad school applications and the resources available to you on campus to make your application as strong as possible. Transfer students - specific advice for you begins at the 11:34 mark.

08/01/17 — Clarity, competitiveness and connections. The three C's that the UC Berkeley Career Center are focused on when working with students as they develop their education outside of the classroom. This week we are thrilled to have Katie Crawford and Angie Luo, UC Berkeley career advisers, who work with engineering students on campus. They introduce us to the events, programs and resources that are available to students in the College of Engineering from the Career Center. Also, learn some tips and advice of how to prepare for your post-Berkeley career before you get to Berkeley in the fall.

07/25/17 — Engineering Scholars as Engaged Scholars (ES²) is a first-year program that fosters an engineering culture that reflects our richly diverse national community and prepares students to be engaged, well-rounded citizens. Engineering Scholars is accepting applications now and we thought it would be a great time to discuss the program, the course that is part of being an Engineering Scholar and social justice for engineers with Khalid Kadir, lecturer at UC Berkeley.
