Berkeley engineers named to 30 Under 30

January 4, 2017

Forbes magazine’s 30 Under 30 list for 2017, a compilation of the brightest young entrepreneurs, innovators and game changers across 20  industries, includes four Berkeley Engineering alumni:

  • Ankur Aggarwal (M.Eng.’12 EECS) and his college roommates teamed up to found TowerView Health, which sells a smart pill box with custom trays of medication.
  • Timothy Downing (Ph.D.’13 BioE), now an assistant professor at UC Irvine, was honored for research that demonstrates how extracellular signals can influence the final fate of cells. His discoveries have larger implications in the field of biomedical engineering.
  • Thibault Duchemin (M.Eng.’14 IEOR), CEO and cofounder of Ava, a Berkeley-based startup that makes a mobile tool to convert conversations into text for hearing-impaired individuals. Read more: Breaking the sound barrier in deaf communication
  • Tim Wang (B.S.’09 BioE) cofounded KSQ Therapeutics, a drug company that uses his work with the gene-editing technology CRISPR to look for new drugs.
