White House honors engineering faculty with early career awards

07/03/19 — Anca Dragan and Javad Lavaei have been awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). Newly hired faculty members Alvin Cheung and Barna Saha were also honored.

Aaron Streets named Pew Scholar in biomedical sciences

06/14/19 — Aaron Streets, assistant professor of bioengineering, is one of 22 early-career researchers joining the 2019 Pew Scholars Program in Biomedical Sciences.

Scott Shenker elected to the NAS

05/01/19 — EECS professor Scott Shenker is one of eight UC Berkeley faculty elected to the National Academy of Sciences this year. He is considered to be one of the top computer scientists in the country and has designed new ways to configure complex computer networks.

04/23/19 Carnegie Corporation — Stuart Russell, a professor of electrical engineering and computer science, was named a 2019 Carnegie Fellow. He was recognized for his artificial intelligence work.

04/02/19 IEEE — Jitendra Malik, Arthur J. Chick Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at the University of California at Berkeley, has been named to receive the IEEE Computer Society's 2019 Computer Pioneer Award.

Eli Yablonovitch honored with Optical Society award

02/08/19 — The Optical Society, the leading global professional association in optics and photonics, announced that the 2019 Frederic Ives Medal/Jarus W. Quinn Prize will be presented to EECS professor Eli Yablonovitch. Yablonovitch is honored for “diverse and deep contributions to optical science including photonic crystals, strained semiconductor lasers, and new record-breaking solar cell physics.”

02/08/19 — The National Academy of Engineering has elected EECS professor and alumna Claire Tomlin (Ph.D'98 EECS) to its ranks. Tomlin was cited for her “contributions to design tools for safety-focused control of cyberphysical systems.”
