Civil & environmental engineering class registration instructions

All Civil Engineering students are encouraged to seek advising for next semester and Faculty are standing by, ready as of April 6, 2020!

Faculty can provide you with advice on your choices for classes for Fall 2020 and beyond; they can offer insights into various CEE career paths; they can supply research opportunities and they are wonderful sources of support and information.

Please take this opportunity to connect with faculty–they are waiting to hear from you!

Join a Zoom session OR email the faculty person for a specific meeting time, just for you.  The link is available online. Please note if a Zoom link is not posted on the spreadsheet it means the faculty is only available at the time listed for advising via email.

You are also welcome to email Catherine Bouvier Dang, your ESS Adviser or set up an appointment with her or email Julia Konopasek with questions.

EECS class registration instructions

Faculty Advising this semester will be online and it will occur Monday, April 6th – Friday, April 17th for all students declared in the EECS or L&S CS majors.

Students are not required to attend faculty advising. However, you MUST access the web app and opt out. This will allow us to accommodate all students.

Important Dates:

  • Now through Wednesday, April 1, 9:59 a.m.: Students who have attended Faculty Advising before, should access the web app to see their advising session. They will have the option to keep their adviser from last semester, reset their preference to “blank”, or opt out of participating via the Faculty Advising web app.
    • If you wish to keep your adviser, select the faculty’s name and click “Save”.  If you want to change your adviser, select “(blank)” and click “Save”.
    • If you choose to select a new adviser, you will be able to do so beginning Wednesday, April 1, 10:00 a.m.
    • Please note that once the system officially opens on Wednesday, April 1, 10:00 a.m., you will not have the option to opt out or make any other changes.
  • Wednesday, April 1, 10:00 a.m.: Sign-ups for all students will occur on a first-come, first-served basis on the Faculty Advising web app. All students must access the web app, even if just to opt out.
    • IMPORTANT: Students are responsible for selecting an advising time that does not conflict with their schedule. Please make your selections wisely.

We hope you’re excited about this opportunity to connect with faculty and hear about their experiences and advice. Faculty Advising is primarily intended for discussion of course, graduate school, and industry questions. Although no longer required, you are encouraged to attend Faculty Advising, as it is an important opportunity to connect with faculty. Questions about policy and/or specific degree requirements should continue to be directed to staff advisers.

I am graduating this semester. Do I need advising?
Graduating students are welcome to participate, but not required. L&S CS graduating students, should meet with the CS Major Advisers to confirm they have successfully completed their degree. EECS students should also meet with their ESS Adviser.

For more information on faculty advising see our FAQ or email faculty-advising@eecs.berkeley.edu

IEOR class registration

Students in IEOR are encouraged to seek mentorship from our exceptional IEOR faculty. Faculty hold office hours throughout the school year to help students with course content; to advise on courses, ask about career aspirations, and also graduate school; to mentor undergraduate student researchers, and to write letters of recommendation as appropriate.

IEOR students should meet with the faculty advisor assigned at least twice a year for academic advising. The faculty advisor reviews the student’s proposed academic schedule, suggests coursework based on the student’s interest and offers to mentor for career development. If a student struggles academically, advising will be mandatory (for students with GPA below 2.0) prior to enrollment in classes for Fall 2021.

Undergraduate faculty advising for IEOR majors will begin in April. Students can meet with their assigned faculty advisor online and will be contacted by email regarding how to schedule an appointment.

Materials science & engineering class registration instructions

MSE faculty will be providing virtual advising. In order to meet with an advisor, you will need to send them an email and then the both of you can discuss and find a “virtual” meeting time that works for both of you.

Undeclared class registration instructions

Engineering Undeclared students in their third or fourth semester are required to meet with a faculty adviser in their intended major to review their planned schedule for the upcoming semester. Third and fourth semester students currently have an enrollment hold and will need to meet with a faculty adviser before this hold can be removed by their ESS Adviser .  Please see the information below about where and how you can meet with a faculty adviser in your  intended major.

To prepare for your meeting with the faculty adviser be sure to:

Once you have the class enrollment form signed by a faculty adviser you can either email your the form to your Adviser, Joey Wong or bring the signed form in during an appointment with Joey. Joey can then release the enrollment hold.

If you are ready, you can also declare your major now too.
