College committee opportunities

College-wide committees seek student representation at the beginning of each school year. Students who have had this unique opportunity recommend the experience as an impactful way to contribute and to develop professional skills with as little a time commitment as 1-3 hours a month. Student members have had opportunities to work closely with engineering faculty and staff, understand the inner workings of the College, and implement changes and improvements that directly impacted their peers.

Applications are open online for the 2020-21 year.

Please note:

  • To be eligible to serve on a college committee, you must be enrolled as a full-time student at Cal for both the fall and spring semester of the year for which you are applying.
  • All committee appointments will be for one academic year only. Any students serving as committee representatives during the current academic year must reapply in order to be considered for the coming academic year.

Below are the committees that need student members and their functions:

  • Engineering Library Committee – 2 undergraduate students, 2 graduate students: This committee gathers feedback from fellow students to provide to the Director of the Engineering Library, provides their own feedback and suggestions and advises the Director of the Library on student opinion related to library policies, spaces, collections, websites, and digital services.
  • Engineering Student Relations Committee – 2 undergraduate students: This committee cooperates with the Dean of the College of Engineering on student problems and, jointly with the Dean, oversees the welfare of the students in the College of Engineering. This committee also plans for commencements and is an integral part of choosing commencement speakers.
  • Graduate Study Committee – 2 graduate students: This committee shall review proposed graduate curriculum and curricular changes, review graduate engineering course and modifications in existing courses, and advise the Dean on graduate programs.
  • Undergraduate Admissions Committee – 2 undergraduate students: The charge of the committee is to propose freshman admissions policies to the Berkeley Division Committee on Admissions, Enrollment and Preparatory Education, and coordinate college admissions procedures and activities.
  • Undergraduate Study Committee – 2 undergraduate students: This committee shall review proposed undergraduate curriculum and curriculum changes for the faculty of the College of Engineering; certify the meeting of undergraduate degree requirements; and review undergraduate engineering courses and modifications in existing undergraduate engineering courses, and review and approve changes to college policy impacting students.
