Answers from the Mentor:
1. What led you to pursue your current career sector?
I pursued mechanical engineering to understand how materials behave and how systems perform under various operational conditions. Research gave me the tools to dig deeper into failure mechanisms and develop my own problem-solving approach. Today, I work in material development for automotive electric battery packs, formulating and characterizing materials used in the assembly of packs with different battery types. The work is exciting because every material choice impacts the manufacturability, durability, and safety of the pack, and I get to solve practical engineering challenges that directly influence emerging electric vehicle technologies.
2. If you could give one piece of advice to graduate students exploring career options, what would it be?
Be open to learning from every experience, even those that don’t seem directly aligned with your long-term goals. The skills, insights, and connections you gain along the way often guide you toward opportunities you didn’t anticipate.
