The new podcast from Berkeley Engineering: Exploring Engineering at UC Berkeley, will be publishing all 10 episodes on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. You’ll be able to learn about engineering at UC Berkeley from guests, including former dean, Tsu-Jae Liu King, current students, alumni and faculty. We will spend one episode on each of the academic departments and programs that are Berkeley Engineering.

Each episode has it’s own webpage with links for the content discussed, an acronym dictionary and transcript.

“Engineering is really about applying knowledge, so that’s math and science, to solve some important problem for people or society.” – Tsu-Jae Liu King, former dean, Berkeley Engineering

Debuting Tuesday, July 8, Exploring Engineering at UC Berkeley is your introduction into each of the academic departments and programs that are part of UC Berkeley Engineering.

“I started building a robot chicken that I would teach to play fetch” – Michael McNabb, B.S. ‘22 mechanical engineering

“It ties together math, physics and engineering in a really interesting way.” – Jacqueline Thibault, B.S. ‘25 engineering math & stats

“I was always fascinated by this idea of, if I was stranded on a desert island, how could I make this thing?” – Mary Scott, Berkeley Engineering faculty

From aerospace to electrical engineering, operations research to nuclear fusion, the Exploring Engineering podcast introduces you to students and faculty, sharing their journeys into engineering, suggestions for learning more and what you can do with an  engineering degree.

“One day I just decided to Google prosthetics and orthopedics.” – Trishley Nubla, B.S. ‘22 bioengineering

“I’m sure there’s misconceptions about a lot of fields out there.” – Adda Athanasopoulos Zekkos, Berkeley Engineering faculty

“And then you go a little bit deeper and you find out that, oh, there is these programming languages that enable these tools to be created.” – Evan Sandoval, B.S. ’26 EECS

Engineering is more than math, physics and chemistry — it’s what makes your brain light up and supports your community and the world.
