Three professors, nine alums named to NAE

Three UC Berkeley Engineering faculty members have been elected to the National Academy of Engineering, bringing the total number of engineering faculty in the NAE to 75: Ken Goldberg, professor of industrial engineering and operations research and of electrical engineering and computer sciences (EECS), for contributions to practice, research and education in robotics and automation for industrial parts handling; Kam Lau, professor emeritus of EECS, for contributions to semiconductor lasers and radio frequency over fiber systems; and Felix Wu (Ph.D.’72 EECS), professor emeritus of EECS and an emeritus and honorary professor at the University of Hong Kong, for contributions to the development of analytical and computational methods for power system stability and security.
Alums Jonathan Cagan (Ph.D.’90 ME), Giovanni De Micheli (M.S.’80, Ph.D.’83 EECS), Gary Guthart (B.S.’87 Eng. Physics), Jitendra Kikani (M.S.’85 ME), Mark Liu (M.S.’81, Ph.D.’83 EECS), Howard McKenzie (B.S.’88 ME), Peyman Milanfar (B.S.’88 Eng. Math & Statistics), Mason Walters (MEng’80 CE) and Andrew Whittaker (M.S.’85, Ph.D.’88 CE) were also among this year’s newly elected members.
