Dean Tsu-Jae King Liu nominated for NAE presidency
The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) announced today that Tsu-Jae King Liu, dean and Roy W. Carlson Professor of Engineering at UC Berkeley, will stand as the sole candidate for the NAE presidency when voting takes place in March 2025.
With more than 2,000 peer-elected members who are among the world’s most accomplished engineers, the NAE provides engineering leadership in service to the nation.
The Council of the NAE officially endorsed Liu’s selection by the NAE’s 2025 Nominating Committee, which consists of members representing each of the academy’s 12 sections. Each NAE section represents an engineering discipline.
“It is a tremendous honor to be nominated for the NAE presidency. If elected, I will build on the strong foundation set by my predecessors to advance the welfare and prosperity of our nation,” said Liu. “But voting won’t happen until March, and there is much more that I would like to accomplish this academic year as dean of the top public engineering program in the nation. This includes the opening of our new Engineering Center in April.”
If elected to the six-year term, which begins July 1, 2025, Liu would become NAE’s first female president since the academy was founded in 1964.
