Grad program rankings edge still higher

March 19, 2018

Continuing a long history of excellence, Berkeley Engineering has again been ranked by U.S.News & World Report as one of the best engineering schools the world. The magazine’s graduate rankings for the 2019 academic year place Berkeley’s engineering programs as third overall.

“We are fiercely proud of our history of outstanding engineering education,” says Shankar Sastry, dean of the College of Engineering. “We are especially pleased that this year each department in the college either maintained its high ranking or moved up from the previous year.”

While the college’s overall graduate ranking held steady from last year’s, several department rankings improved. The electrical engineering program (which is part of the electrical engineering and computer science department) moved from number three to number one. Materials science and engineering moved from number five last year to number three this year. The bioengineering program also rose in the rankings to number four, which is a two-spot improvement from last year. Of note, the civil and environmental engineering programs continue to hold their number one rankings, a position they have held for years.

U.S. News & World Report releases undergraduate rankings in September.
