On Sunday, UC Berkeley will host the free, family-oriented Cal Science & Engineering Festival on campus.

The festival will showcase the university’s champion unicycle basketball team displaying their “physics” skills, a chemistry magic show and the Banana Slug String Band.

Hands-on offerings include viewings through solar telescopes, earthquake demonstrations, fossil displays and a chance for children to power appliances with solar energy.

UC Berkeley’s festival was originally planned for Oct. 23, in conjunction with the USA Science & Engineering Festival in Washington, D.C., but it was canceled due to rain. Sunday’s festival will be held indoors.

These festivals are designed to “reinvigorate the interest of our nation’s youth in science, technology, engineering and math,” according to Rachel Winheld, program manager with Science@Cal, an initiative to inform the public about the university’s science research.

The festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sutardja Dai Hall. For more information, go to http://scienceatcal.berkeley.edu/festival. Select “Sutardja Dai Hall” on the home page for directions.
