Where did you go to college?
I graduated from UC Berkeley for undergrad and San Francisco State for my master’s. I also graduated from the California Culinary Academy — apparently I like to go to school.

How long have you been with the College of Engineering?
Since November 2012.

What is your favorite part of your job?
It’s great when you see a student who has been struggling in their courses, and then they find their passion or just get into the right set of classes and start to shine — that’s really awesome.

What is your approach to advising?
I like to help students find what they want to do. And, within the somewhat structured engineering programs, I like to help them figure out ways they can do everything they want to do.

What is the most unusual job you’ve had?
I taught English conversational skills at Yonsei University in Korea for a summer.

What are your interests?
I love cooking and eating out, spending time with family and friends, and hiking in our great regional parks.

What advice do you have for students?
Do something (as long as it’s legal) that you are afraid to do.

What are your favorite TV Shows?
Game of Thrones, Modern Family, Sherlock Holmes — I could go on, but that’s probably a good start.

What are your favorite books or authors?
There’s a book of short stories, by Steve Almond, which I love.  Also love Flannery O’Connor, Ellen Gilchrist, Barbara Kingsolver.

What is your favorite song, band or type of music?
I mostly listen to modern rock, but also happy to listen to The Who or some awful 70s music — I grew up in the 70s and there was some pretty awful stuff.
